Dog days of fall

Character sketches for a long-term project prominently featuring a great dane with a wonky left ear. Still working on consistency--drawing dogs all day really makes you conscious of all the "tricks" and measuring devices we're used to using on human anatomy. Getting used to another animal's body is taking time!

I thought "wonky" great dane ears included one laying down and the other standing up. Unless that doesn't fit into your story...I've always wanted a Great Dane. When I get one, his name will be Skippy.

As far as I'm concerned your scenario would be wonky too! One of the interesting things I've learned about great danes is that their ears do not naturally stand up, as I originally thought; they undergo a process called "cropping" which is basically a cosmetic surgery that some owners choose for them. The drawings are based on an actual dog which does not have cropped ears.

I know about cropping. And as big of an animal lover as I am, I would still crop my dogs ears. They look much more intimidading with their ears standing up. And I want a dog that can scare the crap out of people.
